We had SO much fun in Capitol Reef! We drove down Thursday afternoon and just the act of leaving Salt Lake made the trip worth it! There is nothing like leaving behind work and other commitments all in the name of fun. I made a video blog of the trip so you can check it out if you want to!
Here are some other pictures to enlarge if you want to see better. Hopefully you can see Eli's face in the last 2. He's a stinker.

Hold on to your Ladies
So, if you read this blog you KNOW how cool Eli is. Tonight we went to my parents' house to celebrate Danny's birthday. As a special present to Danny, Eli proceeded to try and steal Emi away from Danny.
You should have seen his moves! I think that Danny and Mike were taking notes for future use. So here are the steps to win the perfect girl.
1) scare her with a wood snake.
2) pretend like you are cold and turn on the fire.
3) get a blanket and convince her to stare into the fire with you.
4) there is no 4th step! She is yours by this point.
I think that Danny will be able to use these techniques to get Emi back and I'm sure that he will hold her hand just a little bit tighter next time Eli's around.

And The Prize Goes To...Becca
Thank you! I can't tell you what this honor means to me! I have worked so hard never knowing if I would get any recognition. The bloody fingers, broken needles, and aching back all were worth it because of this moment.
I have so many people to thank for this accomplishment! First, to my mom who let me borrow her supplies and extended her knowledge and support. And to my husband, Stewart, who supported me in the many hours of work I did and pitched in on the cutting. To Eli, who didn't run off with my cutter more than 5 times and never once actually cut any of the material. And of course to God who gave me SO many talents! :)
Haa Haa if you can't tell my first quilt is done! I've been working on it, here and there, for quite a few weeks now. I LOVE how it turned out (just don't look at the corners too closely). From afar though it's absolutely perfect. I didn't have enough material on the back so I bound it with some red fabric and it worked out so nice. This will be our camping/picnic blanket. I can't wait to go so that we can use it and make sure it holds up!

Glasses
I came home from the gym the other night and went in to check on Eli and make sure that he was asleep. He was asleep and he still had his glasses on. I thought that it was pretty cute.
It's funny how used to them he is yet he doesn't always put them on first thing in the morning. I could never fall asleep with my glasses and I can't even get out of bed without putting them on in the morning.
One time Eli's glasses fell off and he said, "my glasses, I can't see a thing without my glasses!" That is a line from the movie "Scooby Doo in Where's my Mummy."
Glasses are such a part of out lives. I felt so bad for Eli when I found out that he needed glasses. I know how big of a pain it is to wear them and need them. As soon as Eli got his glasses though I felt a lot better. He looked SO cute in them and he didn't really mind wearing them. People are always noticing him and they think that he looks so cute. We bought Eli 2 pairs of glasses, one wire pair and one plastic pair. The wire pair has stars on the side of them and so I always would call them the star glasses to get him to wear them. He likes the plastic pair the best and named them "the moon ones".
I just asked Eli if he likes to wear glasses and he said "yea, I wish that people could wear them in the baths and the showers but they can't because they would be ruined." I said that he could wear them they just would get wet and he is now pondering that new development.

An Ancient Necklace
Eli is a huge fan of Scooby Doo: Where's my Mummy In this show they have an ankh necklace that plays a role in the show. Velma refers to this as an ancient necklace. Eli talks about "an ancient necklace" for a day or so following a screening of this cartoon. Today Eli made this:
Last night he took over a lot of the yarn that I used to tie a quilt and this morning he made this ankh. I LOVE when he does stuff like this because it makes me think that he's so smart and creative.
Eli loves string. He likes to tie up stuff to other stuff...or people. Today after the ankh picture he had me tie a piece of string to every finger and both arms so that he could be a jellyfish. I have no idea how that makes him a jelly fish but there you go. I've been working and stood up so find out that I've been tied to the chair. luckily his "knots" are usually him twisting the yarn a whole bunch of times but he gets some pretty good knots sometimes. I love having a little boy who is so creative and funny and cultured...I mean, come on, do your kids know what an ankh is?! :)
